Coordinates and Slope
Using Coordinates to Find Slope (Graphs and Tables)
Using Coordinates to Find Slope (Graphs and Tables)
Lesson Description
Students are given the coordinates of two points, and are asked to find the slope of the line that passes through the points using the graphing and table methods. To find the slope of the line using the graphing method, the first step is to plot the given points on a coordinate system, then use the ratio rise over run between the points to find the slope of the line. To find the slope of the line using the table method, the first step is to make a table of ordered pairs with the x values in the left column and the y values in the right column, then find the rate of change, or the change in y over the change in x, which represents the slope of the line.
