Algebra 1: Lesson 070

Multiplying Polynomials
The Distributive Property

Lesson Description

Students learn to use the distributive property to simplify exponential expressions. For example, to simplify y^5(y^2 - 3y + 5), distribute the y^5 through the parentheses to get y^7 - 3y^6 + 5y^5. Note that the product rule is used when distributing through the parentheses. Students also learn the definitions of the following terms: monomial, binomial, trinomial, and polynomial.
