Lesson Description

Students learn that when multiplying rational expressions, the first step is to factor each of the numerators and each of the denominators, if possible, then cancel out the factors that match up, then multiply across the numerators and across the denominators. Students also learn that when dividing rational expressions, the first step is to change the division to multiplication and flip the second fraction, then factor each of the numerators and each of the denominators, if possible, then cancel out the factors that match up, then multiply across the numerators and across the denominators.
