Geometry: Lesson 058

Special Right Triangles
30-60-90 and 45-45-90 degree Triangles (Part I)

Lesson Description

Students learn that in a 45°-45°-90° triangle, the legs are congruent, and the length of the hypotenuse is equal to root 2 times the length of a leg. Students also learn that in a 30°-60°-90° triangle, the length of the long leg is equal to root 3 times the length of the short leg, and the length of the hypotenuse is equal to 2 times the length of the short leg. Students are then asked to find the lengths of missing sides of 45°-45°-90° and 30°-60°-90° triangles using these formulas.
