Pre-Algebra: Lesson 084

Multi-Step Equations
Two-Step Equations

Lesson Description

Students learn to solve two-step equations. For example, to solve 3y + 8 = 20, first isolate the 3y by subtracting 8 from both sides of the equation, to get 3y = 12. Next, divide both sides of the equation by 3, to get y = 4. Finally, check the solution by substituting a 4 back into the original equation, to get 3(4) + 8 = 20, or 12 + 8 = 20, which is a true statement, so the solution checks.
