Lesson Description - Absolute Value Multiplication:
This lesson covers the idea of absolute value multiplication. Students combine multiplication and division of integers with absolute value. For example, to simplify I 9 I x I 4 I, remember that the absolute value of any positive or negative number is positive, so I 9 I x I 4 I simplifies to (9) x (4), or 9 x 4. Next, remember that a negative times a positive is a negative, so 9 x 4 = -36.
