Lesson Description - Absolute Value Multiplication:

This lesson covers the idea of absolute value multiplication. Students combine multiplication and division of integers with absolute value. For example, to simplify – I 9 I x I –4 I, remember that the absolute value of any positive or negative number is positive, so – I 9 I x I –4 I simplifies to –(9) x (4), or –9 x 4. Next, remember that a negative times a positive is a negative, so –9 x 4 = -36.
