Lesson Description - Adding Like Fractions:
This lesson covers the idea of adding like fractions. Students learn to add like fractions by adding the numerators and keeping the denominators the same. For example, 1/8 + 3/8 = 4/8, and note that 4/8 must be rewritten in lowest terms, as 1/2. Students also learn to subtract like fractions by subtracting the numerators and keeping the denominators the same. For example, 16/7 6/7 = 10/7, and note that 10/7 must be rewritten as the mixed number, 1 3/7.
