Changing Dimensions

Lesson Description

Students are asked to double or triple the dimensions of a given figure and find the perimeter and area of the resulting figure. For example, if the dimensions of a given rectangle are 5 feet by 3 feet, then doubling the dimensions would result in a rectangle with dimensions of 10 feet by 6 feet. The perimeter of the resulting figure would then be 10 + 10 + 6 + 6, or 32 feet, and the area of the resulting figure would then be 10 times 6, or 60 square feet.
