Lesson Description - Solving Equations with Variables on Each Side:

This lesson covers the idea of solving equations with variables on each side. Students learn to solve equations with the variable on both sides. For example, to solve 3n + 11 = 1 – 2n, first put the variable terms together on one side of the equation by adding 2n to both sides, to get 5n + 11 = 1. Next, put the numbers together on the other side of the equation by subtracting 11 from both sides, to get 5n = -10. Finally, divide both sides by 5, to get n = -2. Note that students check all solutions by substituting the solution back in for the variables in the original equation.
