Stem-and-Leaf Plots and Frequency Tables
Stem-and-Leaf Plots and Frequency Tables
Lesson Description
Students learn that a stem-and-leaf plot is set up as a two-column table with stems of the given numbers on one side and the leaves of the given numbers on the other. The stem of a number is the digit or digits on the left side of the number, and the leaf of a number is the final right-hand digit. Students also learn that a frequency chart is a table that lists each member of a data set along with the number of times (the frequency) that the member appears. Students are then asked to create stem-and-leaf plots or frequency tables using given data, and answer questions based on given stem-and-leaf plots or frequency tables.
