The flat surfaces of a 3-dimensional figure are called faces, the segments formed by intersecting faces are called edges, and the points formed by intersecting edges are called vertices. Students also learn to classify a 3-dimensional figure as a prism, a pyramid, a cylinder, a cone, or a sphere.
